Bob Richards Nissan: First Altima rolls off the line

Earlier this week, the first 2013 Nissan Alitma rolled off the production line in Smyrna, Tenn., marking 20 years since the original Altima was made. In that span, Nissan has sold 4.4 million Altimas. Come in to Bob Richards Nissan to take a look at a Nissan classic!

“When we started with the little four cylinder and few options you got. Now we’ve got everything, the V6, the handless control,” said Ronnie Cope, a technician for Nissan has worked extensively with the Altima model, in a released statement.

We previewed the 2013 Altima before and it is claimed as being the most technologically advanced Nissan made. Features inspired by NASA include “zero gravity” seats and an “Advanced Drive Assist Display” located in the instrument panel of the dashboard. “Nissan Connect” is the new system that allows hands-free text messaging and other commands, and with a targeted fuel economy of 38 mpg, the Altima is a vehicle with a lot to offer.

“This is absolutely the most fun, the best product I have ever worked on,” said Nissan Regional Product Manager John Curl.

Bob Richards Nissan: “Best Value” models selected by USAA

Two Nissan models were given the “Best Value” distinction by the United Services Automobile Association, the Nissan JUKE took the Wagon category and the Nissan Frontier claimed the Small Truck selection. The USAA used quantitative data such as cost, reliability and safety to select cars from 16 categories.

Cars were selected as “Preferred” by the USAA based on having the best criteria from the formula. Hose selected as “Best Value” were at the top of their category and received a “Good/Acceptable” crash test rating from the IIHS.

The Nissan cube was also named as a “Preferred” vehicle in the Wagon category, with the JUKE taking the top spot.

Bob Richards Nissan: JUKE-R will be built to order

Nissan has announced they will run a very limited build-to-order basis of their Frankenstein – the JUKE-R. The JUKE-R was supposed to be a one-off build combining the Nissan Juke and GT-R, but with a lot of attention and interest in the model, Nissan has announced to build a few more. Nissan has already received orders for the JUKE-R to be built.

“The Juke-R was originally intended as a one-off concept to marry two of Nissan’s most innovative models. But the reaction we had to the car in Dubai was amazing – people were making offers for the original on the street!” Gareth Dunsmore, Marketing Product Manager for the Juke said in a released statement. “With such a strong reaction, and with three genuine offers on the table, we decided we had to make the car a reality. We can’t let down enthusiasts who are this keen to add to their collection of cars. The Juke-R has become something of a phenomenon and I’m enormously proud of the impact it has had. There will be more news to come on Juke later in the year.”

The JUKE-R will feature a 3.8-liter engine and can reach up to 160 mph, in a controlled setting. The new JUKE-R will have updated drivetrains and a new chassis. The newest version will also have about 545 horsepower, not something you’d expect from such a small car.

NissanConnectSM is the next big thing

Last week we introduced the 2013 Altima and described some of the new features in Nissan’s most technologically advanced vehicle. One new feature is the NissanConnectSM making its debut in the Altima. Nissan collaborated with Google, Pandora Radio and Intel to introduce a new way to keep drivers connected, without being distracted.

“It’s clear that consumers expect to be connected wherever they are, and that includes the time spent in their automobiles,” said Carlos Ghosn, Nissan Motor Company’s chief executive officer, in a released statement. “To meet those needs, Nissan is developing a series of innovative breakthroughs in communication devices that will be safe to use while driving.”

With a Bluetooth connected phone, Altima drivers and passengers can access Google local search, Google send-to-car destination navigation and Pandora Radio entertainment, according to Nissan.

“Today, we take it for granted that we can communicate by mobile phone using Bluetooth® technology, check traffic conditions and receive navigation guidance while driving,” Ghosn said. “By 2020, aided by wireless and cloud-based technologies, Nissan will offer our customers enhanced safety and a wide variety of new conveniences like accident-avoiding driving intervention technologies, electric vehicle charging reservations, or a music player that adapts to the listener’s moods.”

The NissanConnectSM is just the beginning of the advancements you’ll see in the Nissan and Infiniti models. The video below features Nissan brass discussing some of the new information technology. 2013 Altima unveiled at NYAIS

Nissan revealed their fifth-generation Altima at the New York International Auto Show, April 4, in New York City.

“The new Altima hits the consumer bulls-eye dead center by delivering a balance of style, performance and value that will continue to make it one of the most popular cars in America,” Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn said at the event.

The newest Altima will be the most innovative yet, according to Nissan. Standard in the new Altima is Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System with Streaming Audio, NissanConnetSM with Navigation and a Bluetooth connectivity suite. Safety features include Safety Shield Technologies such as Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Moving object Detection systems.

With fuel economy of 38 mpg highway the new Alitma features excellent aerodynamics. The NASA-inspired interior features a standard Advanced Drive Assist Display in the center instrument cluster. This display allows information like navigation, text message notification and audio data in front of the driver.

Two engine options are available with a 182-horsepower 2.5-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder or a 270-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. Each will have the standard Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission.

Seven different models assures that your needs will be covered in the new Altima and will be available at dealerships in July.

Nissan Versa Top Safety Pick

The importance of oil: Maintenance tips from Bob Richards Nissan

Keeping your car running smoothly takes care and a range of techniques but one of the most important maintenance projects is keeping your oil fresh. Changing the oil at regular intervals can do wonders for keeping your vehicle on the road. Conversely, one of the worst feelings is locking up an engine by running low on oil. We’ll examine how often you should change your oil and what types are best for your engine.

Checking the Oil

Cars come equipped with a dipstick under the hood that gauges the level of oil in the oil pan. With most vehicles you’ll need to check the level while the engine is cold. Have a napkin or rag handy and remove the dipstick, wiping off the oil present at the time. Re-insert the dipstick fully and then remove again. The dipstick will have an area that indicates the proper level whether it is two holes, crosshatching or an L and H – if the oil level is within this area, you’re fine. If it’s low, you can add oil, but be sure to maintain a proper oil level and have your car inspected for leaks if necessary.

Change at regular intervals

The oil in your car keeps the pistons and other moving parts of the engine lubricated and cooled. Without the oil, the engine will seize up and that is not repairable. When looking to buy your next car or sell your current vehicle, there are factors that will affect the price. These factors can range from being under your control, like condition, to out of your hands, like economic climate. Keep these points in mind when looking to buy or sell for your best price.

Appearance is Everything

A vehicle in great shape that looks good will be worth more. This is a factor that you can control by keeping your car well maintained both inside and out. A car with a clean interior and sharp exterior will fetch a better price when selling. By vacuuming the floorboards, wiping down the upholstery and washing the body, you’re car will not only look sharp, but impress a possible buyer. If you’re purchasing and can live with a less-than-mint-condition appearance, you may find a nice price like you would imperfect clothing at an outlet store.

Mile Marker

The common thought is that when you drive a car off the lot it’s immediately worth less. While this true in the sense of depreciation, a vehicle with lower mileage will catch a better price when selling and will be closer to average price when buying. It is almost impossible to know how many miles you’ll drive in any given year as outstanding circumstances can play a role in how often and how far you drive. Simple economic principles are in play with this factor: a rare car is worth more and a common car less. This is simple supply and demand in the market. However, a car with high demand allows a seller to charge a better price because the buyer is willing to pay more to get it. Some vehicle models are mass produced but are well made and in higher demand, allowing for a higher price. If you’re buying and really want that specific vehicle, be ready to pay more than if you are choosing between multiple models.

It’s the Economy, Stupid

You’re not stupid, that’s why you’re here – but it is about the economy. This is one factor that is really out of your hands. If selling, you probably won’t get the best price for that 12 mpg gas guzzler when gas prices are high. On the other hand, you’ll have more people willing to by that fuel-efficient vehicle in the same time period. The economy fluctuates so it may just be a matter of time before prices are what you want. But, when buying, some dealerships may offer incentives based on the economic climate, gas prices or other situations allowing you to get the best price.
